‘UN working to ensure proper environment in Myanmar’

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi said the UN is working to ensure proper environment for the displaced Rohingyas in Myanmar so that they can return to their homeland safely.

He also assured that the organization will continue its efforts to assist in the Rohingya repatriation process in future.

Filippo Grandi came up with the assurance while talking to reporters after holding a meeting with Bangladesh's Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) Abul Kalam on Thursday afternoon.

“Certainly, the local people are facing a great trouble due to the Rohingya refugees. We, the United Nations and international community, are expressing our solidarity with them,” he said.

He also lauded the role of the Bangladesh government in sheltering the Rohingyas who fled to Bangladesh after fleeing persecution in Myanmar.

Earlier, an UN delegation of 20 members arrived in Cox’s Bazar to see the overall situation of the Rohingyas around 3:00 pm.
