UP member hacked dead in Gangni

Meherpur Correspondent: A member of local union parishad was hacked to death over land dispute at Sholotaka village of the district's Gangni upazila on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Kamal Hossain, member of ward no. 3 of Sholotaka union parishad and son of late Abdus Sattar Joardar of the village.

Locals and family sources said Kamal had a dispute over land with Majedul Islam, elder brother's son-in-law (husband of niece). As a sequel to that, both of the groups locked in a clash. Being informed over the clash, Kamal was returning home from Gangni. Majedul and his people swooped on him when he nearly reached home, leaving him critically injured.

Kamal received serious injuries at his head. Locals rushed him Gangni upazila health complex where attending doctors declared him dead, the sources added.

Anwar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station, confirmed the news.
