Woman beaten to death, husband held in Kaliakoir

Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: Police held a man as he beat his wife to death by a stick at Hijalhati area of the district's Kaliakoir upazila on Saturday noon.

The deceased was identified as Kabita Rani Das, 28.

Kabita along with her husband Bappi Das, 35, hailed from Verabaduri area of Narail Sadar upazila. They resided at the house of one Anwar Hossain of Hijalhati and used to work in a readymade garment factory.

Shaidur Rahman, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kaliakoir Police Station, confirmed the news.

He said, "Bappi locked into altercation with his wife Kabita over family issues on Saturday noon. At one stage, he hit at Kabita's head with a wooden stick, leaving her dead on the spot. Being informed, police held Bappi from the spot.

The body was sent to Gazipur Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.

Lodging a case in this connection was under process while the report was filed, the SI said.
