Woman, grandson found dead in locked room

Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj: Police recovered bodies of a woman and her nine year-old grandson after breaking the lock of their living room from Painadi Madhyaparha  of Mizimizi area of the district's Siddhirganj upazila on Thursday morning.

The deceased were identified as Parvin Akter, 48, wife of late Rahim Mia, and her grandson Mehedi Hassan.

Police also held the women's son-in-law Nabi-Un Awal for interrogation over the incident.

Mostafizur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of the district, confirmed the news.

He said Nabi is caretaker of the tin-shed house of one Italian immigrant Tofazzal Hossain. Nabi, her mother-in-law and son used two rooms of the three room house. Another was rented. The room has been locked for six months.

Nabi said his mother-in-law and son went missing since December 28. Announcement was also made through loud speaker of the local mosque, the ASP added.

Later, Nabi also filed a general diary (GD) over their missing before two days, he said.

On Thursday morning, locals noticed odor from the house. Being informed, police recovered the bodies after breaking lock, the ASP said.

They were killed by strangulating. Nabi had two wives. Second wife Shilpi Begum is Saudi expatriate who used to send money to her mother Parvin Akter, police said.

The incident might be happened over the money, police belived.
