Woman killed in firing with BGB

Cox's Bazar Correspondent: A woman was killed and four others were injured in the incident of firing between Yaba smugglers and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at the outfall of Naf River at Shahporir Dweep of the district's Teknaf upazila on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Jaheda Khatun, 50, wife of Kalu Mia of Myanmar's Mongdu.

The injured were known as Rashida Khatun, 25, wife of Mohammad Toiber, Mojuma Khatun, wife of late Abu Jaher, Mohammad Kasem, 70, son of Mokbul Ahmed hailed from same area and Mohammad Shafiq, 20, son of Abdul Gaffar of Teknaf's Shahporir Dweep.

Col Rakibul Haque, also secotor commander of Cox's Bazar BGB, confirmed the news.

He said Yaba smugglers fired at BGB members when they challenged them while entering Bangladesh with Yaba tablets. Law enforcers also fired at them for self-defence, leaving a woman dead and four others injured.
