Youth killed in Khulna 'gunfight', 5 cops injured

Staff Correspondent, Khulna: A youth was killed in a 'gunfight' with police at Balurmath of Khulna city's Tutparha Cristian community area on Early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Munshi Razu, 27, son of Siddiqur Rahman of the city's Tutparha Daroga Slum.

Five cops including Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman were injured in the incident.

The other injured are Sub-Inspector Sujit Kumar Das, Sub-Inspector Mihirkanti Paul, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sorwar Hossain and Komol. They all are given first aid.

Law enforcers seized a foreign made pistol, three rounds of bullet, a magazine, a Chinese axe and machete from the spot.

SM Mizanur Rahman, OC of Khulna Sadar Police Station, said a gang of 10 to 12 led by Munshi Razu were taking preparation for robbery at Balurmath area. On tip off, police conducted a drive there. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the terrorists fired at them. Police also retaliated for self-defence. At one stage, Razu sustained bullet injury. Then, his associates fled the scene.

Razu was rushed to Khulna Medical College and Hospital around 4:15am where attending doctors declared him dead, the he added.

Razu was accused in at least five cases including murder and gang-rape, the OC said.
