Walton thrash East Zone to register first BCL win

Sport Desk: Walton Central Zone registered their first victory in the fourth round of the fifth season of Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), the country's franchise based first class cricket tournament.

The defending champions on Wednesday thrashed Islami Bank East Zone by 227 runs at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah of Narayanganj.

Earlier on Sunday, Islami Bank East Zone won toss and chose to field first. Walton scored 328 in their first innings with two half centuries from Sharif and Nurul Hasan.
 

Pacer Sharif turned to a batsman and scored 70 runs, highest individual innings for Walton. Nurul scored 65 while Shuvagata Hom added 46 more.

East Zone pacer Abu Jayed took 5 wickets for 77 while Afif Hossain and Saqlain Sajib got 2 wickets each.

In response to Walton 328, East Zone were all out scoring 211 in the first innings.

This time, pacer Sharif showed excellent bowling performance and bagged 4 wickets for 59. Mosharraf Hossain and Shuvagata Hom also claimed 2 wickets each.
 

With 117 run lead, Walton began batting in the second innings and declared at 282 for 7 setting a 400 run target for East Zone.

Marshal Ayub acored 73 while Taiabur Parvez 57 and Nurul 45.

East Zone bowlers Mominul Haque, Alok Kapali and Ebadat Hossain took 2 wickets each.

In pursuit of first victory of the season, Walton bowlers showed excellent bowling performance and started picking up wickets at regular intervals. The defending champions bowled out their opponents for 172.

Only East Zone captain Alok Kapali put some resistance and scored 71. No other batsmen could hit a fifty which led them to the huge defeat.

Shuvagata Hom took 4 wickets for 46 while Sharif, Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Taiabur Parvez bagged 2 wickets each.
 

Earlier, Walton faced defeats in first two matches while drew in the third.
