Sport Desk: He was a genuine all-rounder in the Under-19 cricket and also in domestic cricket. However, Mehedi Hasan Miraz fought hard to prove that in international cricket as he scored only 20 runs in 4 matches.
The 19-year old had a memorable Test debut against England last year where he took 19 wickets in the 2-match series to earn Bangladesh a victory in the second and final match in Dhaka.
Later, he also claimed 4 wickets in New Zealand in a two-match Test series making a total of 24 wickets from 4 Tests.
However, his batting was quite opposite to his bowling performances in the last 8 innings he played. He only collected 20 runs, among whom highest score was 10.
But the young cricketer got his all-rounder status back on Saturday as he made his first Test fifty against India in the one-off historic Test against the neighbours.
He played 103 balls and smashed 10 boundaries to complete his maiden Test half-century.
Miraz made an unbroken 87-run seventh wicket partnership with skipper Mushfiqur Rahim to lead Bangladesh fightback. The Tigers finished day at 322/6 against India's 687/6d in the first innings.
