Rakib clinches Walton Int’l Rating Chess title

Sport Correspondent: GM Abdullah Al-Rakib of Bangladesh Navy became unbeaten champion in the Walton International Rating Chess Tournament sponsored by renowned brand Walton and organised by Bangladesh Chess Federation.

Rakib earned 8½ to clinch the title. FM Mehdi Hasan Pagar of Leonine Chess Club became runner-up with 8 points in the tournament held at Bangladesh Chess Federation hall-room.

Three players earned 7 points each, in tie-breaking system Abdullah Al-Saif of Golden Sporting Club became 3rd, Anisuzzaman Jewel of Mir Chess Club became 4th and S.M. Sharon of Bangladesh Navy became 5th. Nine players earned 6½ points each.

Their position’s are: 6th-FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman Emon, 7th-Uten, 8th-C Mahtabuddin Ahmed, 9th-Saimon Siddiqur Rahman, 10th-Mohammed Enayet Hossain, 11th-Mohammad Sherajul Kabir, 12th-Mukitul Islam Ripon, 13th-CM Sohel Chowdhury and 14th-Shahnaz Mohammad Faruk. 13 players earned 6 points each, in tie-breaking system FM Mohammad Javed, Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan and Faisal Hossain became 15th to 17th. Md. Mujibur Rahman, Belal Hossain, Hossain Imam Mir, Aahelee Sarker, Md. Nurul Islam, Jannatul Ferdous and Subrata Biswas got categories prizes.  

The prize-distribution ceremony was held after last round games on Saturday. F M Iqbal Bin Anwar (Dawn), First Senior Additional Director of Walton Group, distributed prizes among the winners to present as chief guest in the ceremony.

K M Shahidullah Vice President of Bangladesh Chess Federation presided over the ceremony. Mohammad Jahangir Islam Chairman Tournament Committee, Md. Mokaddes Hossain, Vice President of Bangladesh Chess Federation, Gazi Shayiful Tarique, General Secretary of Bangladesh Chess Federation, Morsalin Ahmed and Shamim Khan Joint-Secretaries of Bangladesh Chess Federation, Mazibur Rahman Howladar and Masuda Begum, Executive Members of Bangladesh Chess Federation were among others present in the ceremony.
