Touchstone idol worth Tk 20cr recovered

Manikganj Correspondent: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) recovered an idol made of touchstone worth Tk 20 crore from Bashile village in Shibalaya upazila on Tuesday night.

The elite force also arrested five members of an organised syndicate engaged in smuggling of archaeological artefacts.

Acting on a tip off, an intelligence team of RAB-4, posing buyers, raided the village at Shibalaya in Manikganj and arrested the five smugglers with the idol weighing 6 kilograms.

The arrestees were identified as Ismail Hossain, 32, Chan Miah Bepari, 70, Ranzit Sarker, 35, Delwar Hossain, 28, and Alamigr Sheikh, 30.

A case was filed in this connection with Shibalaya Police Station, Rakibuzzaman, officer-in-charge of the station said.
