Journo Shimul murder: 6 sent to jail

Sirajganj Correspondent: A court has sent six people including main accused municipality mayor Halimul Hauqe to jail in a case filed over the murder of Daily Samakal correspondent Abdul Hakim Shimul. 

Senior Judicial Magistrate Hasibul Haque passed the order around 11:00am on Saturday.

Senior Judicial court GRO Ataur Rahman confirmed the matter to risingbd.com.

Earlier, Investigation Officer (IO) Monirul Haque produced the accused before the court after five days remand.

The accused are - Mayor Halimul Haque Miru, his brother Habibul Haque Mintu, Awami League activist KM Nasiruddin, Hazrat Ali, Nazrul Islam and Manik.

On February 2, Abdul Hakim Shimul was shot while observing professional duty amid a clash between the upazila unit of Bangladesh Chhatra Leauge and the supporters of the mayor.

Shimul died en route to Dhaka for treatment, at Hatikumrul area of Sirajganj on February 3.
