Chittagong and Cox`s Bazar correspondents: The cyclonic storm “Komen” (with ecp 988 hpa) over northeast bay and adjoining Bangladesh coast moved slightly northeastwards and it may cross the country’s coast between Barisal and Chittagong around Thursday noon.

 

Saint Martin’s island and Teknaf were affected by the peripheral gusty/squally wind of the cyclonic storm after mid-night Last night.


The storm was centred at 6:00am Thursday about 75 kms southwest of Chittagong port, 80 kms northwest of Cox’s Bazar Port, 200 kms east-southeast of Mongla Port and 115 kms southeast of Payra Port.

 

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department advised Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar maritime ports to hoist danger signal No. 7. It has also advised the Mongla and Payra ports to hoist danger signal No. 5.

A Met office bulletin said Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Bhola, Barisal, Patuakhali, Barguna, Bagherhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars are likely to experience wind speed up to 70-90kph in gusts or squalls with heavy to very heavy falls.

The low-lying areas of these coastal districts plus Jhalokathi, Pirozpur and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by storm surge of 3-5 feet height above normal astronomical tide, it added.
