'16,000 mill owners blacklisted'

Secretariat Correspondent: Food Minister Qamrul Islam said 16,000 rice mill owners have been blacklisted for hoarding in an effort to manipulate prices.

The government will not buy rice from them for next three years, he added.

The Minister came up with the disclosure at a press briefing at Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday.

'There is no crisis of rice in the country. There is sufficient stock of rice. Besides, eight to ten metric ton more rice will be stored in next August which will gradually be increased to 12," the Minister said.
