2 children killed as van falls into canal

Staff Correspondent, Barisal: Two children were killed and ten others injured as a van carrying students of a madrassa at Mulpain area under Ujirpur upazila of the district plunged into a roadside canal on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Lamia, 7, daughter of Joynal Abedin and Abdullah, 7, son of Selim Hawladar of the same upazila. Both were the students of Darus Sunnah Madrasa.

Maksudur Rahman, doctor at the Ujirpur upazila health complex, confirmed the deaths of the two children.

Shishir Kumar Pal, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ujirpur police station, said two children died and ten others were injured in the accident. The injured were admitted to Ujirpur upazila health complex.
