3 children drown in Gopalganj

Three children, including two siblings of a family, have drowned in a pond at Muksudpur upazila in Gopalganj district.

The incident took place on Sunday morning at Nishchintapur village under Dignagar union of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Meherjan, 5, and his sister Maria, 3, daughters of Miraz Sheikh at Nishchintapur village, and Jhorna, 3, daughter of Nur Alam at Topakandi village.

According to locals, three children slipped into a pond nearby Miraz’s house while they playing there in the morning. Later, family members saw the floating bodies in the pond and rescued them.

The children were immediately taken to Rajoir Upazila Health Complex in Madaripur where duty doctors declared them dead.

Rajoir Upazila Health Complex Residential Medical Officer Dr Pradip Bishwas confirmed the matter.
