Cumilla Correspondent: Three robber suspects have been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police.
The gunfight took place at Komalla village under Burichang upazila in Cumilla district on Sunday midnight.
The deceased were identified as Babul alias Tarkari Babul, 39, at Chorbakor village under Debidwar upazila, Ershadul alias Asadul, 27, son of Tajul Islam at Gopalnagar village under Brahmanpara upazila, and Oli Mia, 43, son of late Abul Hashem at Jagatpur Purbapara village under Burichang upazila.
Mainuddin, officer-in-charge of Cumilla DB police, said acting on a tip off that a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a team of DB police conducted a drive there. Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on policemen, forcing them to fire back in self-defence that triggered a gunfight.
At one stage, the three robbers were caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injures while the others managed to flee from the spot. Later, they were taken to Cumilla Medical College and Hospital where duty doctors declared them dead, he added.
All of them were wanted in more than five criminal cases, said DB OC Mainuddin.
Five policemen, including officer-in-charge of Burichang Police Station, were also injured in the gunfight.
Police also recovered one pistol, one pipe-gun, five bullets and some local sharp weapons from the spot.
