30 missing as 2 boats capsize in Padma

Two boats capsized in Padma River in Rajshahi's Sreerampur area on Friday night, leaving 30 passengers missing.

The incidents of boat capsize took place in the middle of the Padma River around 11:30pm.

Abdur Rauf, senior station officer of Rajshahi Sadar Fire Service and Civil Defense, said the two boats carrying around 42 passengers including children capsized in the middle of the Padma River, leaving a child dead and 30 of them missing.

12 passengers including a child were rescued alive in this connection, he said.

The death toll is expected to rise in this connection, Rauf said.

The rescued passengers were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), he added.
