Another held over Pabna housewife rape case

Pabna Correspondent:  Police arrested another person in a case filed over raping a housewife at Sahapur Jashodal village under Pabna sadar upazila early Friday.

The arrestee is Osman Ali, 35, son of late Fazlul Haq at Sahapur Jashodal village.

Pabna Police Superintendent Rafiqul Islam said Osman was arrested from Singa bypass area. Five people have been arrested in the case so far, he said.

Earlier on Thursday, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station Obaidul Hoque was withdrawn from duty for forcing the victim of the alleged gang rape to marry one of the assailants at the police station compound. Sub-Inspector Ekramul Hoque was also temporally suspended.

A housewife was married off to her one of the ‘rapists’ at the Pabna Sadar Police Station after she was gang-raped.

Locals said she was gang-raped by her neighbour Rasel Ahmed and his associates at her own home on August 29.

The victim lodged a written complaint over the matter with the police station on September 6.
But the OC Obaidul Hoque did not record any case and instead married the victim off to Russel on September 6.
