‘Around 65-70pc votes cast’

Staff Correspondent: Election Commissioner Md Rafiqul Islam said, “Counting of votes is in progress in all the 193 polling centres and we are primarily expecting around 65 to 70 percent turnout in the Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) elections.”

The election commissioner came up with the the comment while talking to journalists at Nirbachon Bhaban in Agargaon area of Dhaka on Thursday evening.

This turnout is not yet final estimate but we came to know that around 65 to 70 percent of votes have been cast in the RpCC polls, Rafiqul Islam said.

“We earlier said that we will present a model election in the RpCC area and have been able to do that. This election has been held in a free, fair and festive mood, he added.

BNP's allegation of creating obstruction by administration on the way of smooth voting in Rangpur City Corporation polls is not valid, Rafiqul Islam said

BNP alleged that the local administration obstructed voters on their way to the polling stations and their polling agents were also driven out of the polling booths.
