BGB deployed at Saint Martin

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed at Saint Martin of Cox’s Bazar.

The border guard force was deployed there long after 21 years. Alongside, Border Observation Post (BOP) has temporarily been set up in the area.

On this occasion, BGB DG Maj Gen Md Shafeenul Islam visited Saint Martin on Tuesday.

Earlier, the then Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) was deployed in the island adjacent to the border. Later, BGB was withdrawn after Coast Guard was deployed for border security.

BGB DG Maj Gen Md Shafeenul Islam said, “Saint Martin is a part of Bangladesh. The island is an important area due to its geographical location.

He further said, “BGB will ensure border security along with preventing drug smuggling and human trafficking.”

Earlier on Tuesday noon, BGB DG touched down at the Saint Martin Island by a special helicopter. From there, he directly visited BGB’s makeshift BOP there. Later, he walked around to visit selected places to construct permanent BOP offices in the area.

He also gave BGB top officials directives over constructing new establishment.

BGB DG Maj Gen Md Shafeenul Islam left the island by the helicopter around 2:30pm.
