Boat capsize in Padma river: Another body recovered

Another body has been recovered in connection with the capsize of two boats in Padma river in Rajshahi's Sreerampur area on Friday.

The body of Moni Khatun, 42, surfaced in the river in the Charghat area of the district on Saturday morning.

Abdur Rauf, senior station officer of Rajshahi Sadar Fire Service and Civil Defense, confirmed the news.

Earlier on Friday evening, a child named Marium Khatun, 6, died at the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where she was admitted following the boat collapse incidents.

Rauf said two boats carrying a number of passengers including children on Friday capsized in the middle of the Padma River, leaving many of them missing.

“It is expected that around 30 to 35 passengers have been missing since the incident. Rescue operation is underway,” he said.

The death toll is also expected to rise in this connection, he added.
