Coronavirus cases rise to 3,960 in Gazipur

29 new coronavirus or Covid-19 patients have been detected in five upazilas of Gazipur, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the district to 3,960.

Gazipur Civil Surgeon Md Khairuzzaman confirmed the information on Thursday (July 16) night.

29 more people have been found infected with coronavirus or Covid-19 after carrying out sample tests of 264 people, the civil surgeon said.

Of those newly infected, 16 were from Gazipur Sadar upazila, one from Kaliganj upazila, three from Kapasia upazila, seven from Kaliakoir upazila and two from Sreepur upazila, he said.

Of those originally infected in the district, 2,341 were from Gazipur Sadar upazila, 355 from Kaliganj upazila, 278 from Kapasia upazila, 490 from Kaliakoir upazila and 496 from Sreepur upazila, he added.

50 people have died of deadly coronavirus and 1,954 recovered so far in the district.
