Cyclone Amphan damages hundreds of houses in Koyra

Cyclone Amphan, one of the worst storms over the Bay of Bengal in years, has destroyed hundreds of houses and croplands and uprooted many trees in Koyra upazila of Khulna district.

Chairman of Uttar Bedkashi union Sardar Nurul Islam and Chairman of South Bedkashi union Shamsur Rahman said they came to know that hundreds of houses, including earthen and semi-pucca houses, were demolished in the cyclone.  Many trees were also destroyed, they added.

At least five places of a dam broke and flooded many areas. Croplands of many villagers have been submerged, they also said.

People of grater Khulna were without power after strong winds snapped electricity lines.
