‘Drug peddler’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug peddler has been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar.

The gunfight took place early Wednesday in Rangikhali area under Hrila union of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Imam Hossain, 30, son of Sultan Ahmed at Rangikhali under Hrila union.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf Thana Prodip Kumar Das confirmed the news.

He said police challenged an auto-rickshaw in the area but criminals opened fire targeting policemen forcing them to back fire that triggered a gunfight.  Later, police rescued a bullet-hit man and 4/5 criminals managed to flee from the spot. Bullet-hit Imam Hossain was taken to Teknaf Upazila Heath Complex, and later he was referred to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead.

Three policemen injured in the gunfight, the OC also said.
