‘Drug trader’ killed in Joypurhat ‘gunfight’

A listed ‘drug trader’ was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with RAB at Ratanpur under Panchbibi upazila in Joypurhat early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Rabiul Islam Mintu, son of late Abdul Jalil at Gopalpur village of the upazila.

Joypurhat RAB-5 Company Commander Additional Police Super Mohaimenur Rashid confirmed the matter.

He said Rabiul Islam was accused in 19 cases.

Acting on a tip off, a RAB team conducted a drive in the area. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the criminals opened fire, forcing the RAB members to back fire that triggered a ‘gunfight’, the RAB officer said.

Later, RAB members rescued bullet-injured Rabiul who was immediately taken to Joypurhat General Hospital where he died later.

RAB members also recovered two foreign-made pistols, one shutter gun, two magazines, eight bullets, 500 bottles of phensedyl and 1200 pills of Yaba from the spot.
