'Drug trader' killed in Noakhali ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader named Monir Hossain alias Kosai Monir has been killed in a ‘gunfight’ in Hatpukura area under Chatkhil upazila in Noakhali district.

According to police, Monir was arrested on Sunday as per his confessional statement a team of police conducted a drive early Monday  in the area along with Monir to recover firearms and yaba.

When the team reached the area, Monir’s cohorts opened fire and tried to snatch him, forcing the policemen to fire back that triggered a gunfight, leaving Monir dead on the spot.

Three policemen were injured in the gunfight, police said.

Monir was accused in 16 cases, police also said.
