‘Drug trader’ killed in ‘gunfight’

A drug trader named Mohammad Rubel was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with RAB in Habib Chara Marine Drive area of Teknaf sadar upazila in Cox's Bazar district early Tuesday.

The deceased Mohammad Rubel, 22, was the son of Md. Siddik in Jadimura area of Teknaf upazila.

Company Commander of RAB-15 Lt Mirza Shaheed Mahtab said acting on a tip-off that a gang of drug traders gathered in the area, a team of RAB members conducted a drive there early Tuesday. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the drug traders opened fire on them forcing the RAB members to fire back in self-defence that triggered a gunfight.  4/5 the drug traders fled from the spot.

RAB members rescued Rubel with bullet injury from the spot and took him to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where duty doctors declared him dead.

The deceased body has been sent to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. A legal action will be taken in this regard.

RAB also recovered a local-made shutter gun and drugs from the spot.
