Sports Desk: After 27 long years, England are once again through to the final of the World Cup by beating Australia by 8 wickets at Edgbaston on Thursday.
The last time England reached the final of a World Cup was back in 1992 when they lost to Pakistan in the final.
This time, playing on their home turf they will be hoping to go one better when they take on New Zealand in the final at Lord’s on 14 July.
Twenty-seven years is not only the gap between England reaching the World Cup finals, it is also the gap between them winning a knock out match at a World Cup.
The last time they won a knock-out match was against South Africa in the semi-final of the 1992 World Cup in Sydney. Most of the people remember that match for how the rain spoiled South Africa’s chances of getting to the final.
Since that night and before Thursday England had failed to win a single match where the loser was to be eliminated. This is how they have performed in the six edition in between.
