Fear of hill collapse in Chattogram city

Fearing landslides amid incessant rainfall, the Chattogram district administration and Met office have urged residents living on hill slopes to take shelter in safer places immediately.

“Using loudspeakers, we asked the people to leave risky hilly areas to avert casualties from possible landslides,” Executive Magistrate Md Towhidul Islam of Chattogram district administration said.

The district administration is closely monitoring the issue, he added.

The Chattogram Met office issued a warning of heavy rainfall in the hilly regions that may trigger landslide.

According to the Met office, it had been raining cats and dogs in the port city from Wednesday.

Some 19 shelters have been kept prepared in the port city, sources said.
