Feni was freed on this day in 1971 from the clutches of Pakistani occupation forces.

Following the strong attack by the freedom fighters, the rest Pakistani army fled to Cumilla on the night of December 5.

Following this, Feni was declared free on December 6.

Many social, political and cultural organisations have been celebrating the day through various programmes.

Lt Colonel (Retired) Jafar Imam, Bir Bikram, said the freedom fighters fought very hard for nine months. Following this, Feni was declared on this day.

Freedom fighter Md Shahjahan said although a monument with the names of freedom fighters in the district was established beside Jail Road of Feni Town, the names became vague now.
