5 killed in Moulvibazar shoe store fire

Five people were killed in a fire originated at a shoe store of a two-storey building on Saifur Rahman Road in Moulvibazar on Tuesday morning with casualties expected to rise.

The deceased could not be identified immediately.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Moulvibazar Model Police Station Alamgir Hossain said the fire broke out at Pinky shoe store housed in the ground floor of the building on Saifur Rahman Road around 9:00am, leaving many people of the building trapped.

Among the people trapped, five were reported dead on the spot, the OC said.

On information, two firefighting units rushed to the spot and began rescue operation, he added.

Firefighters are still working to douse the fire.
