Five to walk gallows for killing child in Dinajpur

A Dinajpur court has sentenced five people to death on charges of killing a four-year-old child Parash Saha at Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur.

Sharif Uddin Ahmed, judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Dinajpur, pronounced the verdict in a crowed courtroom on Wednesday after examining witnesses and records in the case.

The convicts are Zillur Rahman, his (Zillur’s) brother Jewel Islam,  Kamla Uddin, Mamun Rashid Mamun and Ferdous Ali. All the convicts are residents of Kadirnagar village in Ghoraghat upazila.

The court also acquitted six more people as the allegation brought against them was not proved.

According to the prosecution, the accused kidnapped four-year-old boy Parash Saha from Kadirnagar village on November 11, 2015 while the boy was playing near his house, and demanded Tk 10 lakh from the victim’s father as ransom.

As the family members failed to pay the ransom, the kidnapers killed the boy after gouging out his eyes at Kazipara in the same upazila.

The victim’s father Kishore Shaha filed a case with Ghoraghat Police Station on the same day.
