Gang rape accused killed in Chattogram ‘gunfight’

A youth, who was accused in a gang rape case, has been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Banshkhali upazila in Chattogram.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Majid, 30.

ASP Mahmudul Hasan Mamun, assistant director (media) of RAB-7, confirmed the news.

He said acting on a tip off, a team of RAB conducted a drive in Miyar Bazar area early Monday to arrest Abdul Majid.  Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on law enforcers, forcing them to back fire in self defence that triggered a gunfight.

After the gunfight, the law enforcers recovered the body of Majid.

RAB also recovered a gun and six rounds of bullets from the spot.
