Garment workers demonstrate in Gazipur for joining work

Hundreds of workers of a factory in Gazipurdemonstrated for joining work after reopening the factory with the required number of workerson Saturday.

Police and locals said the number of workers ofAnanta Casual Wire Limited factory in Taragachh area is about 3,000. Keeping maintain of social distance, the factory reopened with about 2000 workers.

On Saturday morning, rest of the  workers came to work but the authorities barred them from entering the factory. After that the workers, who failed to join work, demonstrated on the highway in Targachh area of Gazipur City Corporation.At one stage, they created a barricade on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.

Gazipur Industrial Police’s  Additional Superintendent e SushantoSarkar said they left the highway when the factory authorities announced the workers would join the work from tomorrow. He said no worker did not lose his or her job.

He added that out of 2,072 factories in Gazipur, 83 have been opened till Saturday.
