Housewife killed over land dispute

A woman was killed over land dispute at Sultanpur village under Kapasia upazila in Gazipur on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Sufia Begum, 38, wife of Tota Mia of the village.

Tota Mia also sustained serious injuries by the attack of rivals.

Kapasia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam and locals said Tota Mia had dispute with his cousin Mamun over land for long days. As a sequel to that, some 10 to 12 people led by Mamun swooped on Tota Mia’s house and beat him up, leaving him seriously injured. They also beat and chopped Tota’s wife Sufia while she came forward to save her husband, leaving her dead on the spot.

OC said chopping marks were found on the deceased’s head, belly and legs.

The body was recovered and sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College and Hospital for autopsy, he added.
