ICC World cup is a festival for cricketers where showing brilliance Soumya Sarkar got the chance to play.

Soumya Sarkar is a Bangladeshi all-rounder, but one who bowls medium-pace rather than spin.

Soumya was successful in Australia-New Zealand World Cup. He scored 175 runs in six matches.

Sports department of risingbd.com talked with the news sensation of cricket Soumya Sarkar. Sports correspondent Yasin Hasan took the interview on Tuesday. The interview is published below for the readers of risingbd.com:

risingbd.com: Where are you going now after returning from ICC world cup?

Soumya Sarkar: I am going to Satkhira. I am detached from many days from my family. Almost two months I had to stay in Australia. Everyone is waiting for me. After taking with you I will start the journey.

risingbd.com: Is your family members happy with your performance?

Soumya Sarkar: Yes, everyone was happy with my performance.

risingbd.com: Any felicitation is waiting for you in Satkhira?

Soumya Sarkar: (Laughing) I don’t know anything about this yet.

risingbd.com: How was your tour in Australia-New Zealand?

Soumya Sarkar: It was a fabulous tour for me. It was my first foreign tour with national team. I enjoyed everything.

risingbd.com: Will you share your feelings before the match against Afghanistan?

Soumya Sarkar: One day earlier of the match, I did know that I will play the match. After practice session, the names of 11 players were declared and then I heard my names first. So I had no any other special thinking about the match.

risingbd.com: Everybody is happy with your performance. What`s your opinion?

Soumya Sarkar: Yes. I am happy with my performance as a new comer.

risingbd.com: How have enjoyed the batting?

Soumya Sarkar: I enjoyed the batting a lot. I had a confidence that I can do better. I tried my best. The innings would be long but failed. But, I had not regret about that. I hope next innings will be long.

risingbd.com: What`s the secret behind your successes?

Soumya Sarkar: I will not disclose the secret. World cup is a big platform where all cricketers join. But, each match of the World Cup was for me like any other matches. My confidence helped me to do well.

risingbd.com: Bangladesh discovered Shakib-Tamim in 2007 and this time Soumya Sarkar. What do you think?

Soumya Sarkar: (Laughing again). actually I tried to do better. Everybody will evaluate that. I got a scope to play in World Cup and it was a great achievement for me.  

risingbd.com: You had to bat quickly when openers failed. Were you ready for that?

Soumya Sarkar: It can be happen anytime in cricket. Mentally I was ready for that. I had to open against Scotland in the place of Anamul Haque Bijoy. It is always interesting to playing with new ball.

risingbd.com: Third batting position is for you?

Soumya Sarkar: I am ready to play any position. I will play anywhere according to the direction of team management.

risingbd.com: You had to build partnership with Mahmudullah Riyad. How was your experience?

Soumya Sarkar: Riyad bhai really played well. He made our dream fruitful. He helped me so much during playing. He suggested me to follow his batting style. We had a good understanding.

risingbd.com: Bangladesh won several matches. Which one was best victory in your eyes?

Soumya Sarkar: I will mention the match against England because through the match we ensured quarter final for the first time. Besides, the match against Scotland was wonderful. Chasing over three hundred run, we won the match.

risingbd.com: What`s your opinion about Australia match?

Soumya Sarkar: We got a point for that. But, on the contrary we were in better form. If we got the chance to play against Australia then we may win. And we would achieve experience.

risingbd.com: You were interested to play against Australia?

Soumya Sarkar: I had a tremendous desire to play against Australia. I went to Australia to play ICC Under-19 World Cup. I wanted to enter Brisbane after practice then but, stadium authority did not permit. From then, I had a dream that I will play someday. I got the scope this time but rain spoiled everything.

risingbd.com: What`s your opinion about the match against India?

Soumya Sarkar: Actually I have nothing to say in this connection. It’s a part of cricket but it’s a bad experience for me.

risingbd.com: What`s your next planning?

Soumya Sarkar: I want to get some leisure time for few days. Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) will be started soon. May be I will play there. Besides, Pakistan is coming. So I will be busy soon wit cricket. So I want to spend some days with my family before that.
