Low-lying areas flooded in Bagerhat

Low-lying areas have been flooded by the tidal water as a dam broke due to cyclone ‘Amphan’ in Sharankhola of Bagerhat.

The incident took place in Bogi-Gabtala area near Baleshwar river on Wednesday night.

Deputy Commisioner of Bagerhat District Md Mamunur Rashid confirmed the matter.  

According to sources, two parts of the dam broke and flooded many  villages. Homes, fishfarms and croplands of thousands of villagers have been submerged.

Residents of the flooded villages have been evacuated with the help of the administration and volunteers. Work is underway to repair the dam.
