Man accused in 13 cases killed in ‘gunfight’

A man accused in over 13 cases has been killed in an alleged shootout with police at Monirampur in Jashore district.

The gunfight occurred on Thursday midnight at Begaritala village of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Nurul Haq alias Keru who was accused in 13 cases including robbery. He was the son of late Majed Gazi at Vojgati village of the upazila.

Sub Inspector of Monirampur Thana Shahinur Islam said Keshabpur Thana police arrested Keru earlier. As per his confessional statement, a team of Kehsabpur Thana police conducted a drive to arrest his associates. When they reached there, his associates opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back in self defence, triggering a gunfight.

Keru was killed in a ‘gunfight’ and his body was sent to Jashore General Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
