Man arrested over raping garment worker in Gopalganj

Police have arrested a man for allegedly raping a garment worker at sadar upazila in Gopalganj.

The arrestee was identified as Khairul Alam, 35.

Monirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gopalganj sadar upazila, confirmed the news.

He said the garment worker, 25, was heading towards Khulna from Gazipur. Around 8:00pm on Monday, she reached Gopalganj Police Lines area. She was sitting there because it was night and there were no vehicles for Khulna.

The OC said Khairul Alam, driver of battery-run auto-rickshaw, popularly known as easybike, came to her and proposed her to stay at his home with his mother and sister, luring her to reach Khulna.

He further said the woman agreed to his proposal and went with him. On the way, Khairul raped and left her in the night. Around 10:00pm, locals took the woman to police.

Police arrested Khairul conducting a drive. A case was filed in this connection. Medical checkup of the victim is expected to be held at Gopalganj sadar hospital, the OC said.
