One killed in ‘gunfight’ with RAB

A man was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with RAB in Rajapur area under Pabna sadar upazila early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Amin Sheikh, 40, son of Isken Sheikh at Poida village under Goyeshpur union of sadar upazila.

RAB claimed that Amin Sheikh was a listed criminal and a member of a dacoit gang. He also accused in 12 cases including murder and robbery.

Acting Company Commander of RAB-12 Aminul Kabir Tarafdar said acting on a tip-off that a gang of robbers were taking preparations to commit robbery in the area, a team of RAB members conducted a drive around 4.00am.  

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them forcing the RAB members to fire back in self-defence that triggered a gunfight.

RAB members rescued Amin Sheikh with bullet injury from the spot and took him to Pabna General Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead.

RAB also recovered a pistol, a bullet and some native weapons from the spot.
