One killed in ‘gunfight’ with RAB in Barisal

District Correspondent, BARISAL, Feb 10: A youth was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the elite force RAB in Chakerpul area in the city on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Faruk Ahmed (35), alias Panama Faruk.

Rapid Action Battalion-8 Captain Bashar said: “Faruk and his accomplices were going beside the RAB camp, but they opened fire on the RAB members when they faced a challenge. RAB members also fired on them that triggered a clash around 6:30am, leaving Faruk dead on the spot. Four others of his accomplices fled the spot”.

RAB members also recovered a shutter gun and two pistols from the spot.

 

Barisal Kotwali police Officer-in-Charge Sakhawat Hossain said Faruk was a top terror in the area and had at least 10 cases against him.

 

Faruk Ahmed was a locally known goon of the Jubo League. However, his affiliation with the ruling party was not endorsed by the law enforcers.
