A man has died of coronavirus-like symptoms while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH).

He was known as Zakir Hossain, 50, hailed from Natore. He breathed his last at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of RMCH on Saturday noon.

It was learnt that Zakir’s son is doctor of Uttara Medical College and Hospital in the capital. He was at his son’s home in Dhaka where he fell sick. Then, he was admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

RMCH deputy director Dr Saiful Ferdous said, Zakir’s sample was tested in DMCH for coronavirus infection, but he diagnosed negative. So, he was released from hospital. Then, he returned his Natore village home. After reaching home, his physical condition deteriorated.

On Friday afternoon, Zakir was admitted to RMCH. He was put in ICU as his condition was critical. His sample was collected on Saturday morning as he showed all symptoms of coronavirus. However, he breathed his last before testing the sample.

Saiful Ferdous said, “Family members were asked to bury Zakir following health regulations. But it was not clear whether he was infected with coronavirus. It would be confirmed after the sample is tested.”
