‘Pirate’ leader killed in Hatia ‘gunfight’

A pirate leader has been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Hatia upazila of Noakhali.

The gunfight took place in Surzomukhi canal area of Burirchar union of the upazila  early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Bahar, 40, chief of Bahar Bahini.

The elite force also arrested four members of the pirate group from the spot with firarms.

Additional Superintend of Police of RAB Jasim Uddin Chowdhury confirmed the news.

The arrestees are Md Shanto Sheikh, 20, Md Yusuf, 35, Alauddin, 40, and Md Murad, 30.
