Pregnant woman tests coronavirus positive after husband’s death

A pregnant woman, whose Italy expatriate husband died of coronavirus on April 9, has also tested coronavirus positive.

Sonaimuri Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Mainul Islam confirmed the news on Wednesday noon.

It was learnt that Italy expatriate Morshed Alam, 45, was admitted to Noakhali General Hospital with fever, shortness of breath and chest pain. He died on his way to Dhaka for treatment on April 9. Later, his body was taken to the capital’s Kurmitola General Hospital and collected sample for coronavirus test.

On April 11, he was reported to coronavirus positive by the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).

Sonaimuri Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Mainul Islam said after death of Morshed, 13 of total 19 family members’s sample was collected for coronavirus test. The sample was sent to Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID) of Chattogram. Of them, reports of eight were confirmed. Though seven tested negative, but Morshed’s wife detected with coronavirus positive. Reports of other five have yet been reached.

After the woman found with coronavirus positive, sample of other six family members was also collected for test, he added.

He further said the woman has put on home-quarantine. A mobile team of the Health Directorate is supervising the woman. All types of measures for the woman’s health protection have been taken.
