Prime accused remanded for raping two girls in Savar

Staff Correspondent: A court in Dhaka on Wednesday placed the prime accused, Liton Mondal (34), on a two-day remand in a case filed over the alleged gang-rape of two girls in Savar.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Atikul Islam passed the order after Inspector (operations) of Savar Police Station Shahid Sarwardi, also investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court seeking a seven-day remand.

Earlier, police arrested Liton from Charkhalsi village under Daulatpur upazila of Manikganj district on Tuesday afternoon.

On July 6, Liton, also the source of DB police, called the two girls over phone in Savar from Gazipur promising to give them opportunity of modeling and he along with his associates confined them to a room on the first floor of a six-storey building in Sobhanbagh in Savar municipality and raped them by turns.

On hearing screams of the victims, locals and a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police rushed in and rescued the two girls in the morning of July 7.
