Railway to launch Dhaka-Kurigram intercity train service

Bangladesh Railway is going to launch an intercity train service on Dhaka-Kurigram route from October 16.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the train service through a videoconferencing from her official residence Gono Bhaban in the capital.

A view exchange meeting regarding the nomenclature of the train service was held in the conference room of Kurigram district administration on Wednesday with district’s Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sultana Parvin in the chair.

DC Sultana Parvin said eight names were proposed for the train service in the meeting and the names include Bangabandhu Express, Sheikh Hasina Express, Bangakonnya Express, Kurigram Express, Kurigram Bhawaiya, Bhawaiya Express, Kurigram Dharala Express and Kurigram Chilmari Express.

The proposed names were sent to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The final name will be picked for the service after verifying the proposed names, she said.
