Robber killed in Sundarbans 'gunfight' with RAB

Staff Correspondent: An alleged robber gang leader was killed in a 'gunfight' with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Kalabagi area of Khulna range of the Sundarbans on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Abdur Rauf alias Rafuj, leader of a robber gang locally known as Moznu Bahini.

RAB-6 company commander Enayet Hossain Mannan said that acting on a tip off, the law enforcers conducted a drive in the area around 9:30am. Meanwhile, sensing presence of the law enforcers, robbers opened fire which triggered the gunfight, leaving Abdur Rauf bullet injured.

Later, he was taken to Upazila Health Complex where duty doctor declared him dead around 12:00pm.

A rifle, nine rounds of rifle bullets, seven rounds of shotgun bullets and two lethal weapons were recovered from the spot.
