Robber killed in ‘gunfight’

An unidentified robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Biswanath upazila of Sylhet early Saturday.

The gunfight took place at a place between Morompur and Surirkhal of the upazila on Biswanath-Jagannathpur bypass road around 3:30 am.

Acting on a tiff-off that a group of dacoits restricted a vehicle on the road and committed dacoity, police rushed to the spot, said Sylhet Police Super Mohammad Farid Uddin.

Sensing the presence of police, dacoits opened fire on them which forced police to retaliate in self-defence, triggering a gunfight, he said.

The gunfight left a dacoit dead on the spot.
