Rohingya dacoit couple killed in ‘gunfight’

A suspected Rohingya dacoit couple was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Sunday.

The gunfight also left three police members injured.

The deceased were identified as Dil Mohammad, son of late Kader Hossain and his wife Jaheda Begum.

The injured police members are SI Nizam Uddin, constables Sudarshan Das and Shahadat Hossain.

The gunfight took place in hilly areas near Leda Rohingya camp at Hnila union of the district's Teknaf upazila early in the morning.

Two locally made guns and 11 bullets were recovered from the spot.

Confirming the matter, Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of Taknaf Police Station, said the bodies were kept at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The killed couple was the members of an organized dacoit gang and wanted in several cases, the OC added.
