The 13th edition of the South Asian Games kicked off with a gala opening ceremony on Sunday.
On the second day (Monday), Bangladesh won 18 medals in two disciplines-- Karate and taekwondo. Nine medals came from each of the event.
From Karate, Bangladesh won 2 Silver medals while 7 bronzes. A gold medal and 8 bronzes came from taekwondo.
In the morning, Bangladesh won the first medal when Humayra Akter won Bronze in the Women’s Single Karate event. In that event, Pakistan won the Gold and Nepal secured Silver.
Dipu Chakma won the first gold medal for Bangladesh in taekwondo. He beat the athletes from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Nepal in 29+ age group category in poomsae taekwondo event to secure the first gold for Bangladesh.
